This is the most basic beginning of your transcranial ultrasound journey.
If you can only recognize one thing on the screen aside from skull, recognize the third ventricle.
If you think you can take a bigger bite, keep scrolling and we'll supercharge your ability to find your way around ol' squash.

This is the Mesencephalon Plane. But relax, it's just the brainstem, and it will help us find everything else.
Specifically, it's the Midbrain, and this is the view you're most likely to start with if you put the probe down perfectly perpendicular to the temporal bone.
The Midbrain or Mesencephalon looks like the letter "M" turned sideways. Or a Butterfly.

I told you it looks like a butterfly.
Now that you found the midbrain/mesencephalon, gently fan your probe cephalad about 10 degrees. Micromotions.
This is the Diencephalon Plane, where the dark thalami surround that sweet, sweet third ventricle like a rain cloud.
This is also where the Circle of Willis lives. But practice getting here first--finding the third ventricle can be challenging.
